The methods of the scam are coming out one after the other and many people also become victims of it. Now a new type of scam has surfaced, in which Victim is told that its package could not be delivered due to the lockdown and now the company is trying to deliver when conditions improve. Victims' details are then stolen.
Attackers try different tactics to scam and many of them are successful too. Similarly, these days the scam related to online delivery is being done at a rapid pace, in which many Victims have trapped their bank accounts. Actually, in the new scam, Victim gets a call or message that his order delivery is pending. This messaging scammer states that the order could not be delivered due to the Coronavirus lockdown and the scam begins.
When a user receives a message or call, it is believed that some of its packages are stuck, which could not be delivered. The victim trusts the scammer, assuming the delivery company is trying to send the package after the lockdown. After this, the attacker who is carrying out the scam asks for personal details in the name of sending the package. In addition to sending such a package, the Victim is asked to pay a nominal delivery fee online.
This is the dangerous part
The dangerous part of the new scam is not stealing personal details but stealing backing details. Actually, as soon as one clicks on the Victim link for online payment of delivery fees, his internet banking or credit card details are stolen. Delivery fees are asked for only Rs 10 or Rs 20, in which case, anyone agrees to make the payment. The payment of a small amount can be huge and once the banking details are stolen, the scammer can easily empty the bank account.
It is important to remain alert
In such a situation, if you get a message about delivery padding of a package, then confirm whether any of your packages were coming or not. Apart from this, if a package is asked to be sent by a friend or family member, then you should not make any payment for its delivery. Any delivery service tries itself again in case the package is not delivered and if the package is not delivered, it is sent back to the sender. The way to avoid such scams is to stay alert.
